9410/slipway

2010 年 5 月 12 日 水曜日

A walker passage is normally called the slope rather than a slipway.

When you make roads on the natural slopes, the slipways occur naturally.

But sometimes the slipways are made artificially.

Today,it is found more cases that slipway are constructed by laws and regulation in public spaces for welfare purpose in the developed countries.

When there is a pitch difference in a building,yu use stairs generally.

But for wheel chair users the slipways may be constructed.

There are often regulations which require the slipway construction in the buildings of high public usage.

9431-an electric stairs

2010 年 5 月 12 日 水曜日

I’ll talk about an electric stairs.

The stairs is not an escalator we usually see.

A person with wheelchair can step onto a board and go up or down the stairs he or she wants to.

If there is something between the board and the platform,

the stairs can stop automatically because it is installed a safety device.

I had never seen such a stairs before I saw it in Kwansei Gakuin University.

But I saw it only at a gymnasium.

I think the stairs is very useful for a person with wheelchair,

So I hope we’ll see more such the stairs anywhere.

Thank you.

9433-A non step bus

2010 年 5 月 12 日 水曜日

A non step bus is assistive technology around us.This is easier to get on and off bus.

Because a normal bus has bump between the door and the ground, it is hard to use by people using wheelchairs. The number of non step buses has increased in recent years.

This is why a non step bus gains publicity recently.

Ministry of Land,Infrastructure and Transport ,based on traffic barrier-free law,try to be barrier-free for the bus. For example, main policy is to popularize a non step bus,but so far the bus has been quite costly and a user has wanted to divise a design .

A bus is very useful transport in the area like Uegahara that it has many hills and is far away a station.I wish the number of non step buses is increasing .

9437 Computer game technology used to ease pain

2010 年 5 月 11 日 火曜日

Patients who have lost limbs are taking part in a pioneering trial which uses computer game technology to ease their pain.

A sensor like that used on a Nintendo Wii is attached to the stump and special software recreates the missing limb and its movements on screen.

Doctors think that using it regularly can bring long-term pain relief.

Because patients persuade the brain that the limb is really there by moving the whole leg and foot.

8211-Assistive technology

I introduce rakurakumouse . The mouse is very convenient because of ability to reduce the burden with hand. However the disabled find it difficult to double-click or drag. But rakurakumouse allows them to use the function of mouse only to push one

Button, such as click, double-click, drag or scroll. Moreover, it can be order-made for each person. For example, change of the position or size of button is possible. That’s why I recommend rakurakumouse as a good assistive technology. Thank you for your listening.
